Imo Assembly Moves To Halt Illicit Drugs Consumption

Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Acho Ihim, has revealed that the state legislature, was contemplating enacting a new law aimed at eradicating the consumption and use of illicit drugs in the state.
 
According to the speaker, the state house of Assembly became very concerned over the devastating effects of hard drugs on a cross section of the people especially the youths.
 
This revelation was contained in an official statement by the speaker, which said, “a new law to eradicate the smoking, sale and consumption of marijuana and other hard drugs in Imo state will soon be in place”.
 
Rt. Hon. Acho Ihim, in the statement further said that smoking of Indian hemp and consumption of various hard drugs has toxic effects on the brain and body of the people, especially the youth.
 
He observed that as a result of the consumption of these dangerous drugs, most of the consumers run mad and as such becomes useless in life and also commits heinous crimes against the state and fellow citizens.
 
The speaker explained that the law was even more necessary because cannabis and other illicit drugs consumption leads to impairment and illness while their chronic and heavy use increases the possibility of the side effects take significant toll on the health of the people.
