The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in
Imo State, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, Sunday afternoon, accused the state
governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha of being responsible for the shooting
and killing of the two youths in Oguta local government area of the
state, last Saturday during Okorocha’s senatorial campaign rally.
In an official statement issued in Owerri, Sunday and signed by his
spokesman, Kissinger Ikeokwu, Chief Ihedioha alleged that the
government security men who shot and killed the two youths at the
political campaign rally held at Ejemekwuru in Oguta local government
area, at the instance of the governor, was ordered to carryout the act
by the governor himself.
The PDP candidate condemned the killing and noted that governor
Okorocha is the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) for the
Imo West Senatorial district.
According to him, “This killing, is unacceptable and very worrisome.
It is another killing too many by the Rochas Okorocha’s
Chief Ihedioha, recalled that the present administration has been
notorious for engaging youths of the Niger Delta Area of the state in
acts of thuggery and violence, rather than creating employment to
engage the youths.
According to him, Imo people will no longer tolerate this type of
killing, and must resist it.
However reacting to this allegation, governor Okorocha, through his
Chief Press Secretary Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, denied involvement in the
killing of the two youths at the campaign rally ground.
According to him, the killing of the youths was a cult related
incident and wondered why he should be linked to it.
He said that his opponents in other political parties, would defect
them in the coming election, were responsible for this blackmail.
The governor further said that one of the opponents, the governorship
candidate of All Progress Grand Alliance (APGA) senator Ifeanyi
Ararume had once accused him, of masterminding the demolition of a
building belonging to are Henry Okafor, the APGA candidate for House
of Representatives seat of Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Constituency.
