The Minna residence of Nigeria’s former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has within a spate of three days played host to leaders of various political shades.
On Monday, members of the National Central Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) led by the party’s National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus were at the Uphill residence of the former Military leader.
The forner Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has been playing the libero role for political leaders and parties of late as politicians oil their guns ahead of the next general elections which is streaming up.
The Peoples Democratic Party has been making strenuous efforts and restrategizing to return to power after it was outstaged by the All Progressive Congress in the 2015 general elections.
The visit by the party’s National Working Committee to the former President is believed to be part of efforts by the leadership of the party to return the party to the mainstream power in next year’s general elections.
Secondus and his delegation also took time off and visited the family of the late former Governor of Niger state and former member of the PDP’s Board of Trustees, (BOT) Engineer Abdulkadir Abdullahi Kure.
Though the meetings at both homes were held behind closed doors, dependable sources confided in our correspondent that the discussions were on fence building, restratigization and reach out plans “for the task ahead”.
National officers of the party on the entourage of Prince Uche Secondus included the National Secretary of the party, the National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbodinyan, National Financial Secretary, Abdullahi Maibasira and the National Women Leader of the party.
Our correspondent in Minna gathered that the PDP’s national leaders had arrived Minna airport via a chartered flight and were conyed from the Minna Airport in four big utility vehicles to the palatial Uphill residence of General Babangida where they held meeting for hours behind closed doors.
Members of the Niger state Working Committee of the party led by the Chairman, Barrister Tanko Beji and other state officials of the party accompanied the visiting PDP national officials to the residence of late governor Kure and the Uphill residence of IBB.
Our source said the former Military leader implored the leadership of the PDP to work assidiously to regroup just as he commended their efforts since coming on board particularly the efforts at reconciling aggrieved members of the party.
At the residence of late former governor Abdulkadir A. Kure, the PDP’s national chieftains were received by his widow, Senator Zaynab Kure.
Last Thursday, the former military ruler received the leadership of the Social Democratic Party, (SDP) led by Chief Olu Falae, the national leader of the party, Professor Jerry Gana, Professor Alkali, Professor Adeniran and others.
And on Friday, the former leader hosted a pro democracy group where he urged the group to rise in advocacies for youth participation in partisan politics and governance.
