The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde on Tuesday insisted that he will not tamper with the existing 68 local government councils but rather make them more functional.
Engineer Makinde said this in a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan by his campaign organisation and signed by Prince Dotun Oyelade.
The PDP governorship candidate emphasized that “instead of cancelling the newly created local government areas, he will make them more effective through better funding because they are closer to the grassroot and capable of bringing development faster to rural dwellers and urban masses.”
According to the Engineer Makinde,
“there is an urgent need to engage local government workers more on areas of needs to enhance better efficiency, saying that under his administration, it will be possible for an LG worker to rise to the position of a Permanent Secretary.”
He however reminded the Nigerian Labour Congress of the meeting he held with their representatives early in January and promised not to renege on his undertaken to be sincere with them and to have them select one of their own as Special Adviser on Labour Matters.
