In reaction to the allegations that Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State ordered his supporters to dismantle the political campaign billboards of opposition candidates of his All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties, challenging his choice of candidates, he has denied making such an order or directing anybody to remove or dismantle anybody’s campaign billboards.
The governor made this clarification in an official statement signed and issued in Owerri, the state capital, weekend by his special assistant on social media networking, Mr Anayochukwu Abasitodu Idiong.
According to the statement, “it is important to state categorically clear that His Excellency, Rochas Okorocha has not ordered the removal of campaign billboards either of the APC candidates or that of the opposition party candidates.
For the billboard of Mr Uche Nwosu, the governor’s son-in-law, the official statement attributed the removal to the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON).
The statement further said that APCON, was under obligation to perform its official dutis, particularly when the fees paid for such billboards were not renewed.
