Home Coming: Mimiko’s Triumphant Entry into Ondo Town

Former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko had a triumphant entry into his ancenstral home, the ancient city of Ondo after eight years of meritorious service to the state.
 Mimiko who had on Thursday handed over the affairs of the state to the new Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu drove into the waiting hands of his kinsmen on Friday, February 24,2017 with pump and pageantry.
There was a long motorcade from Ile-Oluji junction, passing through Akure garage and major streets of Ondo to the palace of Osemawe, Oba Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo.
Oba Kiladejo commended Mimiko for been a good Ambassador of Ondo people and for serving meritoriously as the first Civilian Governor to serve for two consecutive terms of eight years in the history of the state.
Prayers were offered for Mimiko and members of his family by the Kabiyesi, High Chiefs and other spiritual leaders present and even at the Oba Adesanoye Civics Center where a large crowd had gathered to welcome home their son.
Dignitaries present were members of the National and State House of Assemblies, Chieftains of the People Democratic Party (PDP) across the state and members of Christians and Muslims communities.
The Chairman of the Welcome Committee, Chief Segun Adegoke who delivered the only key note address gave gratitude to God for granting Mimiko the wisdom required to serve the people successfully.
While delivering his address, Dr. Mimiko thanked the people for standing by him when he was serving as Governor without which he would not had been able to succeed in office.
Now that he is back home, he promised to continue to serve humanity full time as long as he lives even as a free man and a Medical practitioner.
Dr.Mimiko who was born on October 3, 1954 to Pa and Mrs. Atiku Bamidele Mimiko of Ondo, rose from Saint Josephs College, Ondo to a B Sc. Health Science degree holder in 1976, to a more qualified Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor in Surgery degree from University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
He served the state in various capacities as Commissioner, Secretary to the State Government and later a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria before becoming the Governor of the state between 2009 to 2017.
