Halt Spread Of Lassa Fever, Commissioner Tasks Ondo Health Practitioners

The Commissioner for Health in Ondo State, Dr. Wahab Adegbenro has ordered Health Officials in all the 18  local government levels in the state to over see cases of ‘sudden deaths’  to checkmate  the spread of lassa fever epidemic in the state.
Dr.Wahab Adegbenro recently gave the directive at a meeting he held with  Primary Health Care Coordinators from all  the 18 local government  areas of the state.
The meeting which was  held at the Cocoa Conference hall in the Governor’s office  Akure was at the instance of the Deputy Governor, Hon.AgbooLa Ajayi.
It was attended by the Commissioner for Local Govt and Chieftaincy affairs, Hon.LoLa Fagbemi, the Admnistrative Secretary, Primary Health Care Development Boas, Dr.Akanbiemu, Caretaker Chairmen in the 18  council areas and their Primary Health Care Coordinators.
The Commissioner for Health emphasized that it become imperative that burial for the body of any “Sudden Death “must henceforth bê Supervised by medical experts to prevent possible spread of the disease which according to him has recorded 27 Cases and six death.
The meeting was meant to strengthen the funding of Primary Health Care activities at the LocaL government level also had the state cCairman of NULGE, Comrade Bunmi Eniayewu in attendance.
Commissioner Adegbenro also stressed the need for all stakeholders to rise up to the challenges as the health sector has already mobilized  Its surveillance team ln all the 18 local government áreas.
Commenting on some of other preventive measures, Dr.Adegbenro said “we must discourage our people from sundrying gari and other stable food by the roadside where rodents could easily contaminate them.
 He also warned underaged children against rat consumption.
The Commissioner for Local govt and chieftaincy affairs said Money will be made available for advocacy and awareness campaigns to curb the menace.
The Deputy Governor at the forum also charged the PHC coordinators and all the Caretaker Chairmen to ensure that the immunization exercise for infants and the underaged children slated for the month of march recorded a huge success.
ALGON chairman, Hon. OLoruntogbe and the state Chairman of NULGE, comrade Bunmi Eniayewu thanked the govt of Ondo State for lts efforts at ensuring that all is well in Ondo State.
