Group renews agitations for creation of new Oyo State

The Oyo Pinnacle Club, New Oyo State Forum and Oyo Metropolitan Development Association at the weekend renewed the agitation for the creation of new Oyo State from the present Oyo state.
This was made known at a special reception held in honour of the Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, the elected Senator, House of Representatives and House of Assembly members from the zone organized by the three clubs.
Speaking on behalf of the people of Oyo and Oke Ogun zones area of Oyo State, Chairman of New Oyo State Forum, Engineer Francis Taiwo declared that Oyo and Oke-Ogun zones are the most neglected areas in the state for now and that if a New Oyo State is created, it would surely ensure provision of the much needed basic amenities in the areas.
Taiwo who was speaking on behalf of the three groups, tasked the elected representatives of the areas as well as those on political appointments from the two zones to stop the marginalization of the two zones.
He stressed that in doing this, there is the need for both the elected and the appointed representatives from the two zones to as matter of urgency ensure the resuscitation and completion of projects in the zones such as Okere Gorge Dam at Iseyin, Upper Ogun River Basin Irrigation Scheme, Oyo North Agricultural Development Programme, The Igbeti Marble project, Fashola Farm Settlement, Erelu Water Works, Government Technical College, Completion of Oyo-Ogbomoso expressway as well as ensuring upgrading of Federal School of Survey and Federal College of Education in Oyo to full-fledged Universities.
Engineer Taiwo added that the programme was originally meant to felicitate with Barrister Shittu on his appointment as a Minister and rejoice with elected representatives from the zones was a way of pledging unalloyed support of the people of the two zones to the representatives.
“We wish to assure you of our cooperation and support in all your efforts to stop the marginalization of Oyo and Oke-Ogun zones and move the zones forward, the completion of these projects and the provision of other infrastructural facilities will certainly fast-track the socio-economic development of Oyo and Oke-Ogun zones, “he said.
Chairman of the occasion, Surveyor Benjamin Lala who said the zones is being marginalized by Ibadan, the state capital, pointed out that the aims of the organizers was to serve as pressure group to influence all tiers of government towards taking positive action on issues beneficial to various communities such as the creation of New Oyo State out of the present Oyo State with headquarters in Oyo.
Surveyor Lala stressed that the reception was meant to remind the representatives of the zones of what the people of the zones expect from them, saying, “you are hereby reminded that your choice is a rare opportunity which is full of responsibilities and challenges, the challenges could bring you down or lift you up depending on your own choice”.
Eminent personalities including traditional rulers, chiefs, academia, technocrats, religious leaders, politicians and professionals from 14 local government areas, Oyo and Oke- Ogun geo-political zones of Oyo state attended the reception.
