Kaduna State Government has been commended for embarking on mass refuse collection and environmental sanitation by engaging thousands of unemployed youth across the 23 local government areas of the state.
Coordinator, El-rufai Youth Coalition, Alhaji Balarabe Birnin Yaro disclosed this in a statement made available to New Nigerian in the state.
He described the refuse collection embarked upon by the state government as a welcome development.
According to him, the programme is aimed at providing Job opportunities to thousands of unemployed youths across the state including women.
“We are really grateful with the various developmental activities embarked upon by the Kaduna State Government which aimed at making Kaduna better in the country. It is the responsibility of these youth and women to protect our communities to be free from various diseases and germs which could be of great danger to all citizens of the state,” he said.
Yero noted that for the program to succeed, government must ensure prompt payment of allowances to those participating in the program to serve as a morale booster. He said very soon the body would present a trophy on environmental sanitation to be competed for by various youth from these communities in the state.
“We are going to organise a contest for the cleanest environment in Kaduna and the award will be in cash and a trophy, so as to encourage other communities to clean their environment. As such, everyone in the communities will be participating in cleaning the environment,” he said.
He advised people to avoid dumping refuse into water ways to ensure clean and healthy environment, adding that most of the water and environmental disease are caused by the activities of people in communities due to disposing of waste into drainage and in the process blocking the water ways.
