The commitment to the Nigerian project, his love and zeal for one indivisible Nigeria places former President Olusegun Obasanjo as one amongst equal, Niger state Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello has said.
The Governor said while saluting the former President who turned 80 on Sunday that the commitment and vision for an indivisible, one Nigeria by former President Olusegun Obasanjo remains unparalleled.
Governor Bello noted in a congratulatory message to the erstwhile first citizen that his place in Nigeria’s history is glazed with long, deep golden imprints so unique even amongst his compatriots of equal statuses.
He said Nigeria is proud and lucky to have a leader whose character and qualities are quintessential. He described Obasanjo as a nationalist, a detribalised leader whose giant footprints would remain indelible for generations yet unborn to learn from.
In a flowery worded message, Governor Bello said in the statement “i rejoice with you today as you clock 80 years. Yours has been a life dedicated to the course of our country.
“At your age, one would have expected you to be on the sidelines or backseat watching things as they unfold, but your commitment and vision for an indivisibly, united, prosperous and peaceful Nigeria, have singled you out as a leader with a difference”.
The Governor noted that while some Nigerians may questioned certain positions taken by Obasanjo on certain national issues, his stance on such issues are not personal nor parochial.
“Though some may not understand or agree with your position on certain national issues, one thing that no one can take away from you is that your decisions on such critical issues are devoid of personal sentiments or for parochial gains” he stressed.
He noted that Obasanjo has spent and devoted his life in services and sacrifice to his fatherland adding that “your commitment and unbiased leadership virtues stands you out amongst your contemporaries.”
He applauded Obasanjo’s untiring inputs and interventions to national and international discourse saying his contributions are sterling.
And while praying for good health and longevity of life to the octogenarian leader, Governor Bello expressed optimism that the former President would make more sacrifices in service to humanity and to country in years to come.
