Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello has directed the state’s Ministries of Water Resources and Works to ensure steady water and electricity supply in schools and health centres across the state.
He gave the directive on Tuesday when he visited the Galadiman Kogo community in Shiroro Local Government Area of the state during a tour of the council area.
Governor Sani Bello noted that electricity and water supply were critical amenities necessary in schools and health centres which should not be toyed with. He said provision of the two would go a long way to ease the sufferings of students and in patients as well as for the day to day running of such places.
WhiIe at the neighbouring Zumba, governor Sani Bello advised the people of the community and its environs to stop tempering with electricity installations in the area to avoid hazard and dangers assiciated with such unprofessional conducts.
He told the communities that he had asked the management of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, (AEDC) to restore electricity supply to the area which have been without supply for some times.
“On your own part, you must ensure you pay your electricity service bills regularly to avoid disconnection and you must desist from interfering with the supply lines to avoid disasters that may lead to loss of lives and properties” he warned.
The governor however assured the people of Zumba of the construction of a Secondary School to serve the community just as he promised that a new electricity transformer to serve the community would soon be provided to them.
At Erena, governor Abubakar Sani Bello directed the immediate assesement of the road in the village for possible repairs to ease movements of goods and persons in the village.
He told the community that a new Day Secondary School would soon be constructed in the area under the state’s Whole Schools Developnent programme while another Secondary school would be constructed at Zumba to serve the education need of the area.
The governor assured youths in the area of his administration’s determination to provide them with empowerment opportunities to make them self reliant through vocational and skills acquisition training in various spheres of human endeavor to enable them earn a living.
The District Head of Erena, Mohammadu Abdullahi had earlier pleaded with the state governor to assist the communities displaced by the federal government for the construction of the Shiroro hydroelectric dam, who were yet to be fully compensated by the federal government years after their land were taken over by the federal government, to get their entitlements.
He urged the state government to passionately look at the poor infrastructural state of the communities who are bereft of all basic amenities and are living in squalor and abject poverty, lack and malnutrition.
The District Head appealed to the governor to come to the aid of the communities by providing them with basic social amenities of life.
