The quest for the industrialization of the state is predicated on a tripod of security, transparent legislation and sustainable infrastructure with the view to attract foreign investments, Governor Udom Emmanuel has stated.
Emmanuel while commissioning a road project called Information Drive in Uyo on Wednesday, said that his administration is commitment to the tenet of these thrust, even as paying allegiance to God’s service bounded on love, unity and peace for the people.
The project inauguration was part of the activities marking his administration’s one year in office/democracy day celebration.
He urged the media community in the state to focus on issues that would bring development and attract investors to the state.
“The media should be careful of the kind of information they send to the world by being objective in whatever they published because information is power. If you send wrong information into the world you will cause a lot of problems in the society. Let us express love to ourselves and to one another. Government will come and go but Akwa Ibom state will still remain,” Governor Emmanuel admonished.
He also urged youths in the state to shun all forms of criminal acts but rejoice in peaceful living by embracing people-oriented development platforms such as government policies and programmes meant to attract investors to the state, thereby creating employment opportunities for them.
The governor however, commended the youths and leaders of the community for the support they gave to the construction company – BTS Construction Company that handled the project which he also acknowledged, has delivered the job according to the specification and on time.
Earlier, the state Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyang-eyen had said that the construction of Information Drive which provided access to a number of media houses including the NUJ Press Centre in the state has been a cry of journalists in the state as well as residents living along the road for many years due to its deplorable state.
According to Mr. Inyang-eyen, the decision of the present administration in the state to construct the road was to bring succour to the plight of the journalists in the state as well as residents of the area after many years of crying and appealing to government and other corporate bodies for help.
Also the chairman of the state council of NUJ, Elder Patrick Albert in a brief remark thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for fulfilling his promise on the road and described the project as “marriage of trust that has been contracted between the state government and media community”.
As part of the activities marking the Governor’s one year in office/democracy day celebration in the state, Governor Emmanuel has commissioned other road projects in Uyo and Oron, inspected and laid foundation for other projects in the state.
