In an avowed determination to sustain the relative peace in Lagos State, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has urged residents to avoid acts that are capable of causing chaos and plunge the state into crisis.
He also called on them to comply with the laws of the state, irrespective of position and status, noting that a lawless society does not progress.
“I want to appeal to everybody to be law abiding by obeying the rules of the state government. Citizens of prosperous nations obey the laws of their countries and for us to be great we must abide by the rules of government”, the governor charged.
The governor also implored religious leaders and their followers to respect the rights of others by not hindering them from practising their faith.
Ambode who spoke at the 20th Annual Convention/Thanksgiving Service of Overcomers Pentecostal Prayer Ministry in Lagos, stressed that there is the need for believers to tolerate other faithful and not hinder them from practising their faith for peace to reign in the state.
Represented at the occasion by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Mrs. Oladimeji Ebun Grace, the governor emphasised that since there is no religion that preaches violence, every religious practitioners must shun violence and tolerate one another.
Ambode, who pointed out that it is an irony for religious leaders to flout laws, added that such act does not speak well about their callings and would bring them to disrepute when they are made to face the wrath of the laws.
According to him,”I should be able to practise my faith without hindrance and as believers; we should live together in harmony because there is no religion that preaches violence. It is an irony for people of God to flout the law because it does not speak well about their callings. There should be understanding among us and respect for each other’s right”.
As part of efforts to cement the existing peaceful co-existence among different religious groups, the governor hinted that the state government through the state chapter of the National Inter-Religion Council (NIREC) has concluded arrangement to hold inter- religion conference, scheduled for the month of July, 2016.
Speaking with journalists at the occasion, the General Overseer of Overcomer Pentecostal Prayer Ministry, Pastor (Dr.) Sam Ogedengbe implored Christians to be steadfast and fervent in prayers, adding that they can’t avoid being tested by the devil.
