Go Round FC battled hard but eventually fell to a late penalty goal as Rivers United won 1-0 at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium.
It was the first top flight derby game in Rivers State since the disbandment of Sharks and the change of name from Dolphins to Rivers United but it failed to live up to its pre- game hype.

It took a late penalty (85th) by Ochowechi Salefu after Awala Moses fouled Samuel Akinbinu.

After the game, coach of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma said it was important they got the three points.
Thank God we were able to get the three points. We will build from there. We are still a work in progress,” Eguma said.
Go Round FC coach, Ngozi Elechi was disappointed with the loss but says the penalty conceded was not due to inexperience.
It was not inexperience. Sometimes a situation like this happens. Awala has played lots of big games. It could have happened to anyone.
My players have shown they can play against and beat experienced sides,” Elechi said.
