Gbagyi Traditional Council has suspended the coronation of Abdullahi Shittu as the District Head of Gwagwada District earlier scheduled for this Thursday as directed by the Kaduna State Government following series of protests by the Gbayi Youth Progressive Union (GYPU).
The Gbagyi Traditional Council appealed to the GYPU to be calm and embrace peace as the traditional council was working hard to resolve and douse the tension which the appointment of Abdullahi Shittu who was said to be a non indigene as the District Head of Gwagwada District under the Chiefdom has caused.
The Council also at a peaceful protest at the palace of the Paramount ruler, expressed displeasure over the recent appointment of Abdullahi Shitu whom they described as a settler in Gbagyi land.
Chairman of the GPS, Ibrahim Wadason said the youth will do all it takes to reject Abduillahi Shittu and also to ensure the turbaning ceremony does not hold, until a Gbagyi native is appointed for the position
The Angry youths disrupted the Gbagyi stakeholders and Traditional rulers meeting holding at the Sa Gbagyi palace in Ungwan Romi, Kaduna
Addressing the protesters, Secretary of the Gbagyi Traditional Council Usman Zarmai called on the youth to be law abiding and always respect constituted authorities
According to Zarmai, the Gbagyi Traditional Council has suspended the turbaning ceremony of Abdullhai Shittu scheduled for this Thursday as Directed by the state government through the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs
“We have suspended the turbanning ceremony, we will go back to the commissioner and explain further your grievances and seek their advice on what to do”
“All we need in our chiefdom and the state at large is to have a peaceful community before, during and after the turbanning, we appeal to you to be calm as we are on top of the situation”
It would be recalled that Abdullahi Shittu was appointed the District Head of Gwagwada District by the Kaduna state Government in May 2018, with the youth protesting his choice.
