FUTO to graduates 3177 students with 24 First Class degrees today

The Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), will today, December 5, 2015 graduate a total of 3177 students from the various fields of study with 24 of them leaving the ivory tower with First Class degrees.
The ceremony was preceded by the installation of the new chancellor of FUTO, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Mohammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa, Ph.D, CFR, the Lamido of Adamawa.
In line with the tradition during the installation the Chancellor was conferred with the Doctor of Technology, Honoris Causa of the university.
Briefing the press on the 28th convocation ceremony in Owerri, the Vice-Chancellor Professor Chigozie Cyril Asiabaka said that the graduands have meticulously gone through the rigours of university training and as such would be awarded degrees of the university, pointing out that among the graduands are 604 with second class upper, 1,381 got second class lower, while 223 got third class and 11 students got pass.
He further said that the 28th convocation ceremony will also witness the graduation of post graduate students, who have credibly acquitted themselves with their post graduate studies in their respective fields.
The Vice Chancellor said that the university will also conferred honorary degrees on some distinguished and respected Nigerians who have immensely contributed to the growth and promotion of education in the country.
He gave the names of such persons as governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state, Alhaji Dr. Bamanga Mohammed Tukur and Late Senator Uche Chukwumereije.
