The Federal University of Technology, Minna in Niger State is set to offload 3,741 graduates at the 27th convocation ceremony and the 35th Founders’ Day of the institution slated for 1st February 2018.
The 3,741 graduation ceremony is for the 2016/2017 academic session including 62 graduates who came out with First Class and 46 others who bagged PhDs in various academic fields.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Abdullahi Bala disclosed this while briefing journalists in his office. He said the weeklong event would start with prayers in Mosques tomorrow, (Friday) and a church service at the Chapel of Grace, Bosso and Gidan Kwano campuses respectively on
Sunday.
Prof. Bala who would be presiding over the convocation as Vice Chancellor of the University for the first time since his assumption of duty last month, told journalists that 3,096 graduands would receive the school’s first degree certificates.

His words “a total of 3,096 graduands will receive first degrees, while 426 will be awarded Masters Degrees, 46 others will bag PhDs and another 173 persons are to be awarded Post Graduate Diplomas, (PGDs) in various courses offered by FUT, Minna”.
“Out of the 3,096 graduands with first degree category which are classified, 62 are graduands who made First Class, 1,006 had Second Class Upper divisions, 1,526 have Second Class
lower division, 468 others have Third Class, while 34 have Pass degrees”.

The Vice Chancellor explained that activities lined up for the convocation would be a week long eventd which would climax with the commissioning of the institution’s School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology Complex, Phase 11 building by the Executive Secretary, TETFund, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa.
The convocation proper is slated for Thursday 1st February, 2018 at the main campus of the institution at Gidan Kwano.
The Vice Chancellor attributed the increase in the number of
candidates that made First Class from last years’ 34 to 62 this year to improvement in the general learning and teaching environments.

Speaking on what the institution has been able to contribute to the body of knowledge, research and innovations, he said the different Departments and Schools in the institution would during the week long events, showcase their research outputs to the general public.
