Four Policemen Died in Fatal Accident in Lagos

The camp of the Nigeria Police, Lagos State Command was Sunday thrown into mourning mood, as four of its operatives were crushed to dead in a fatal motor accident.

The incident, which occurred at  about 1.00pm along Isiwu road, in Imota area of Ikorodu, also left one of the Cop with a serious injury and currently on admission at the intensive care of LASUTH, Ikeja.

According to sources, the deceased Cops, who were members of a team of Policemen attached to X Squad at the State Police Command, were on surveillance and patrol duty along Isiwu road, Imota Ikorodu area of Lagos state when the unfortunate incident occurred.
They were said to be on board of a police truck, a Nissan frontier van with Reg no NPF 409 D,  that was allegedly hit by a 911 tipper lorry.

The driver  of the tipper, who can not be identified at the time of this report, was said to have fled the scene immediately.

It was disclosed that the vehicles were coming from opposite direction at a point near Isiwu town where they collided.

In the process three policemen died on the spot and as a result of that, traffic policemen were immediately dispatched to the scene.

An ASP and Inspector who sustained serious injuries were rescued and rushed to LASUTH Ikeja, where the latter died and the former is currently admitted.

Meanwhile, their corpses have been deposited at General hospital Ikorodu and LASUTH, Ikeja for autopsy. The police patrol truck and tipper lorry have been towed to the division as investigation is on-going to apprehend the fleeing suspect.

As the Lagos State Police Command mourns the death of its finest officers who died on active duty, the Police Command said it would not leave any stone unturned to bring justice to the lost souls.

The command’s PPRO ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole in a statement made available to journalists, adviced the general public to come forward with any useful information that would lead to the arrest and prosecution of the fleeing suspect and urge Lagosians to be very cautious and alert while driving on our roads.
