Foster Quality Leadership on Nationwide League – Ofuyah
From JACOB ONJEWU DICKSON
For Nigeria to become a force to reckon with internationally at the senior level, we must first ensure that our leagues at the grassroots are managed by qualified, passionate people that will see to the discovery of talents.
Coach of Nationwide League Division 1 side, JZ United, Bamidele Ofuyah stated this while speaking to New Nigerian Sports.
According to him, several stars are being left undiscovered because teams playing at the Nationwide League are not well supported, as a result of absence of sponsors.
He explained that individual with experience and track records in managing people and business should be brought on board in order to attract quality sponsorship that will translate into better competition in the league.
“When you have an administration that has being in charge for four years and failed to attract sponsorship to the league, suddenly at the tail of their tenure, they are talking sponsorship drive, which is a ploy to deceive those that will be voting. They have forgotten that the delegates are all witnesses to the woeful performance, and are anxiously waiting to show them the way out,” he said.
He added that such failures are responsible for the clamour for a new team at the helm of affairs to bring about the desired improvement in the league.
“We need someone with charisma and solid vision, who can penetrate places, to seek and secure sponsorship to drive the league. I am happy that right now we have Honourable Godfrey Gaiya contesting, we are hopeful that when he comes on board, things will be tremendously better,” he said.
Ofuyah was of the view that if teams benefitted from sponsorship funds that can provide even jerseys and balls for them, they would be motivated to perform better.
