Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi state has directed youth groups leaders in the state to form youth cooperative societies in other to benefit from his administration’s youth skills acquisition and empowerment programmes that will be unveiled with the passage of the State 2016 appropriation bill.
This, he said, is preparatory to the implementation of the massive job creation exercise for youth as embodied in the All Progressives Congress (APC) manifesto which is also in line with his campaign promises.
The Governor, who was speaking at an interactive session with leadership of youth groups in Bauchi, said that paucity of resources in government occasion by drop in oil prices in the international market will not be a hindrance to the implementation of that covenant he signed with the people.
He said that the era of destroying youths’ future by offering them motor cycles for commercial activities by politicians in the state is over, stressing that his administration has carefully mapped out programmes that will prepare the youths for gainful employment and future leadership positions.
“Youth organizations deserve special attention of the All Progressives Congress, APC administrations, especially in our state because of their support and doggedness in ensuring that our votes counted and protected against potential election riggers”, he said.
The Governor said that he convened the meeting with leadership of youth groups in Bauchi to explain his administration’s restoration agenda and the change mantra of all APC governments to them.
Abubakar explained however that any meaningful change comes with some pains that ought to be understood by the people and handled with careful planning as, according to him, the nation is undergoing serious paucity of resources which has continued to go down since their assumption of office.
“We struggle to keep government running by exercising high sense of prudence and blocking wastages and leakages through which public funds were being siphoned in order to carry out our constitutional obligations and ensuring that our youth have a better future other than what they had under our predecessors.
“We knew that the journey was rough after 16 years of maladministration and mismanagement at both the State and national levels. Youth are major stakeholders and must therefore be made to understand the state of our economy”
He added, “We are preparing our youths for the task of being responsible future leaders. Ours is to empower them in their different fields of life and give them skills which differentiate us from the past administrations”.
The Governor challenged those criticizing the cost of major road contracts his administration awarded in the State capital to carry out expert cost analysis about the contractual agreements and the cost of the project which includes road dualization and payment of compensation, saying it is the cheapest in the country.
Governor Mohammed Abubakar also lamented the neglect of local government areas in the provision of critical social infrastructures, saying “When our budget is passed every local government in the state will feel the presence of government”.
He implored the youth leaders to continue defending the foreign trips of President Buhari which he said have already started yielding fruitful economic and social results to the country, saying the visits have necessitated the improvement in oil prices while his prudent economic policies have saved about 50% of the 2016 federal budget.
