A total of eight hundred unemployed youths and women in Kebbi State have been engaged to acquire skills, improve their competencies and expand their enterprises.
Speaking at a one day sensitization on social investment programmers held in Birnin Kebbi, Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Babale Umar Yauri said the state has entered into an agreement with the federal government in supporting youths, women, the physically challenged and other vulnerable population in becoming economically active.
According to him, this is demonstrated by initiating the commencement of the internationally applauded World Bank funded Youth Empowerment and Social Support Operation (YESSO).
He added that it is a partnership with the federal government to benefit from the social investment progammes under the national social safety Net -Co-coordinating office (NASSCO).
Umar however called on well-meaning youth to help themselves by benefiting from these initiatives, which are earlier announced to be free from political interference in selecting the beneficiaries.
Earlier, Special Assistant to Kebbi State Government on youth empowerment, Hon. Buhari Usman Ali said the programmers will alleviate the youths from abject poverty.
