FG, States Urged To Stop Patronising Quack Engineers

Mr. Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Works, Housing and Power

The Federal, state governments, private companies which carry out roads construction, bridges and housing estates have been urged to engage qualified engineers instead of patronizing quack engineers.

Engineer Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu made the called during the Nigerian society of engineers, Owerri branch and the Iwuanyanwu 3rd edition of Engineer Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu Annual Lecture Series, held at Imo Concorde Hotel, Owerri.

According to him, a situation where governments, individuals and companies engage quacks to build for them or engage them for roads construction due to cheap labour calls for serious attention.

He pointed out that almost all the collapsed buildings including the
bridges, flyovers are traceable to quarks that are not trained for the job and they well patronized them due to their cheap labours.

Chief Iwuanyanwu reminded those who engaged the services of quacks to
re-think because there are so many Nigerian engineers roaming streets
looking for what they would do.  He passionately appeal to the government at all levels and companies including the individuals to engage Nigerian engineers instead of their foreign engineers counter
parts, which their charges are very high.

In her lecture titled “re-engineering the Nigerian economy to fast-track achievement of the SDGs,” Engr. Prof. (Mrs) Gloria A. Chukwudebe said “re-engineering entails a paradigm shift from the way
work is presently done in the offices. Its principles, concepts, notions and general philosophy should become part of our everyday activities and curricular at all levels”.
