Federal University Gusau To Get Observatory Station From NiMET

The Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) is to get an installed Resident Observatory Station (ROS) in a suitable location within the University from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) for the purpose of carrying out meteorological activities in the University.
A statement signed by the university’s Information Officer, Umar Usman said a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Federal University Gusau and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet)  at NiMet office in Abuja and signed by  the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Magaji Garba and the NiMet Director General, Prof. Sani Abubakar Mashi.
Usman said part of the obligations of NiMet as agreed was the installment of the ROS, maintaining the meteorological instruments installed, posting personnel(s) and or observer(s) comprising of at least one Meteorologist and one Meteorological observer to the ROS for the purpose of generating, collating and analyzing meteorological information or climate data in the station.
He added other  obligations were “Catering for payment of salary of the personnel posted to the ROS, providing furnishing and other office requirements to the personnel posted to the ROS, permitting staff and students with interest in teaching, knowledge acquisition, research and training in climatology/meteorology to have access to its meteorological and climate data of information for research activities.
“Training relevant personnel of the FUGUS on weather data collection, handling and processing of other related training exercises at its Regional Meteorological Training Centre (RTC) at costs to be determined by NiMet, and provide funds to support meteorological/climatological research, training and capacity development activities at the FUGUS,” he said
