Family planning ‘not only for women but men too’ ~ NURHI

Oyo State Team Leader of the Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI), Mrs Stella Akinso on Thursday said family planning is not only for women but men too.
Mrs Akinso stated this in at the end of the ‘Visibility and Knowledge Parade’ held in Oyo West (Oyo), Ogbomoso North (Ogbomoso), Ibarapa East (Eruwa), Kajola (Okeho) and Iseyin (Iseyin) Local government areas of Oyo state.
The NURHI team leader stressed that part of the objective of the campaign was to create awareness on ‘Get It Together Campaign (NURHI 2)’ and Family Planning to correct myths and misconceptions about family planning services and create a sustainable channel of demand for family planning services.
She maintained that the objective of sensitization programme also included to provide information and referral on family planning services in these communities.
Mrs Akinso disclosed that the parade afforded NURHI to provide referral services to over 2,000 prospective family planning clients who had already been attended to and that mobilizers, providers Family Planning coordinators, Advocacy Core Group, religious leaders, community leaders were also in attendance to give necessary support and information to the clients.
Mrs Akinso noted that the team provided family planning services for not only women but men in the communities which  has erased the notion that family planning/child spacing is only limited to women.
Speaking during a courtesy visit on him, the Baale Akeetan in Oyo, Chief Jimoh Oyeleye lauded NURHI for bringing the project to the area and for choosing Akeetan Primary Health Care center as one of the beneficiary facilities and for the benefit of the people.
Chief Oyeleye assured of his readiness to take the campaign across his domain, saying, “I will talk to my friends on the need to tell their children to embrace family planning”.
