Sixty family members of deceased Police officers were handed cheques worth over 100 million naira by the Inspector General under the Police Life Insurance Scheme, Saturday in Calabar.
The beneficiaries were drawn from the four states in the Zone 6 Police Command which include Akawa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers and Ebonyi State.
Presenting the cheques on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police to the beneficiaries, the Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Zone 6, Baba Adisa Bolanta said the act is in line with the guidelines establishing the Police Insurance Scheme.
According to him, the scheme was established to take care of and ameliorate the suffering of the family members of Police personnel who lost their life or suffered injuries due to accident in the line of duty.
Bolanta advised the benefiting families to ensure that they utilized whatever they got judiciously in line with the scheme’s agenda. He said the scheme had actually met its purpose over the years.
“Though, the process had delayed but I can tell you that today it is a huge success and the force shall continue to appreciate the families of our lost colleagues” he assured.
Master Daniel Osaro who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to God for making the day possible. He said the money will assist the family in paying their school fees and attend to other pressing family needs.
