THE  police in Enugu  have confirmed the arrest of a member of a kidnap gang which attempted to abduct a medical doctor last  weekend in Nsukka area of the  state.
Assistant Commissioner of police ACP, Ros- Amson Musa Haladu, in charge of Nsukka Area command who confirmed the arrest enjoined  people residing within the vicinity of the incident to freely volunteer information that would lead to the apprehension of the fleeing kidnappers.
This is coming few weeks after kidnappers reportedly announced the formation of an association in the area. which  residents said notices were pasted round to that effect.
A  source in the area  told our correspondent  that the suspected kidnap kingpin met his Waterloo at Ovoko community in Igbo Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The suspect who gave his name as Eze Christopher who claimed to be a native of Ibenda Obollo Eke community in Udenu council aree, was arrested by the anti-kidnap squad, when his three other colleagues left him in a failed kidnap attempt of Dr. Chukwuemeka Nnadi, the Chief medical director of  Chukwuemeka Hospital and Maternity in Nsukka.
It was   gathered that a group of four young men had broke into the
doctor’s room pretending to need emergency medical attention.
Nnadi, told newsmen that he was scared when four young men walked into his office without following the normal procedure, adding that, when he asked them what their problem was, they said they wanted him to come to their car to attend to a friend who was seriously injured.
’I asked them if they have obtained a card, they said no, I advised them to obtain card first and bring the person into the hospital.
‘They said no that I should go with them. Suddenly one of
them started closing the door, and as my receptionist tried to enter
through the back door, another man was pushing her back while another
emerged with a gun tucked in his waist. When I saw the gun, I shouted and my shout attracted the clients who were waiting to be attended to’.
Sources said all the four persons escaped and ran towards a waiting car but one of them was unlucky as he fell down before reaching the car and was apprehended
The suspect while fielding questions from newsmen,  admitted that he and his colleagues now at large  were actually at doctor Nnadi’s hospital but refused to disclose their mission.
He mentioned the name of one of his colleagues as Emeka but declined mentioning the names of the rest.
Despite his claims of being a native of Ibenda Obollo Eke in Enugu state, his dialect betrayed him as it sounded more of dialect of a community
in Anambra state.
However, newsmen who visited the scene of the incident, also reports that the suspects abandoned their vehicle when it fell into a ditch.
The said  vehicle has an inscription of Nnamdi Azikiwe University UNIZIK Awka, by the side and registration  number plate CW 792 ENU.
