The Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has organized a one-day sensitization clinic to promote and encourage women entrepreneurs on value addition on new and existing products in Zamfara State.
The workshop with theme “Stimulating Sustainable Export Development through Women Include” was attended by many women groups from across the state.
In a keynote address to flag off the event, the North West Regional Coordinator of the council, Alhaji Hassan Bala said the programme would also address supply based constraints and articulate projects that would provide quality infrastructure for export production.
He noted that Nigeria’s over dependence on primary commodities as source of export had caused untold setbacks to many other revenue generating commodities and the nation’s production at the international market.
“We have not been able to foster other commodities exportation, because we have neglected production and manufacture of products whose profits would have been much higher if encouraged and well harnessed”,  he explained.
He said, selected and registered women groups from the state would serve as windows to opportunities in products value chain.
“This is because Women Cooperative Societies encourage processes which improve productivity, performance and improved value for goods and services”, he said.
He informed the participants that value addition to local products and production also increased foreign exchange earnings and profits while the exportable products would be more attractive and appealing.
“This in turn will ensure higher returns on investment as well as enable the exporter earn higher percentage of incentives from the council”, he remarked.
He said, some of the incentives included articulation of ‘Zero Oil Plan’ which mobilizes public and private resources in replacing oil as number one foreign exchange earner.
The coordinator who revealed that the NEPC had introduced the One State One Product (OSOP) said the workshop would further pursue the production and processing of selected products across the country.
He urged the participants to take advantage of the workshop in order to get enlisted in the global economy.
