The immediate past Minority leader in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Joshua Olagunju was on Tuesday elected unopposed as the new Speaker of the House.
However, there was a mild drama at the Oyo State House of Assembly complex as only selected few newsmen were allowed into the complex while many others were barred from entering the House complex .
All the armed security agencies at the gate leading to the House of Assembly were claiming that certain lists of journalists that are to cover the election of the new Speaker has been handed over to them and that no other journalists except the selected few are to be allowed into the Complex.
At the sitting presided over by the House Deputy Speaker, Honourable Abdulwasil Musa, majority of the lawmakers voted for Honourable Ojo as the new Speaker to replace the late Speaker of the House Honourable Michael Adeyemo who died on April 27, 2018.,
New Nigerian learnt that few minutes to the election of the new Speaker, two other lawmakers that have signified their intention to vie for the vacant post namely Deputy Speaker, AbdulWasi Musa and Hon. Segun Ajanaku backed out from the race.
The new Speaker representing Orire State Constituency in the Oyo state House of Assembly and he is said to be the oldest and most experienced member of the Assembly.
The new Speaker was Deputy Speaker of the Assembly from 1999 to 2003; Deputy Governorship Aspirant of the Action Congress in Oyo State between 2006 and 2007.
Honourable Ojo was elected under the platform of Labour Party before he defected to the ruling APC.
Also, the lawmaker representing Ibadan South East Constituency 2, Hon. Akeem Ademola Ige was elected as the new Minority Leader of the House.
Honourable Ige was elected into the House on the platform of Accord Party and now in PDP becomes the Minority Leader after Ojo was announced as the new Speaker.
