The Nigeria Institution of Mechanical Engineering (NIMechE), Kaduna State Chapter, at the weekend inaugurated her new executives after emerging winners in their various positions during the association’s August 2018 general elections.
The change of barton became imperative after the former excos led by Engr. Shuaibu Yakubu, finished their two years tenure.
The event which brought together people from all works of life, climaxed the beginning and investiture of a new chairman, Engr. Ibrahim Bello and his team whom are expected to reign in the next two year.
In his acceptance speech, Engr. Ibrahim, pledged to change the tide by embarking on a massive membership drive for the association which he noted has been one of the challenges for some times now.
According to him, “it is no longer news that our great & vibrant Chapter has been experiencing a great reduction in membership lately. This Exco will work very hard in ensuring that membership drive initiative is rekindled. Permit me
to state that membership drive is supposed to be every member’s responsibilities. Let us be the ambassadors of this great Chapter in our places of work and everywhere we go.”
Outlining his programmes for 2019, which is themed, “‘Capacity & Professional Development of NIMechE Kaduna Chapter Members’, he said part of his administration’s priority is to create strong partnership with the state government & its agencies in advancing the capacity and welfare of members.
“This we intend to achieve by the following programs God’s willing:
Constant monthly technical paper presentation, industrial visits, workshops, seminars, research, industrial linkages/collaboration. Public lectures, synergy between NIMechE & educational institutions, firms & industries, technical exhibition.
“In partnership with Kaduna State Government & Relevant industries, institution, and firms in Kaduna, the
Excos will work towards establishing a Mechanical Engineering Resource Center where Mechanical
Engineers at every cadre will be trained in various subjects of Mechanical Engineering.
“Not forgetting our younger ones in school & the community we are operating in, we will carry out the
following; career talks in schools, institutions and in PTA meetings. Mentorship, community advocacy programme. The welfare of members will be taken a step further by ensuring that we rejig our welfare programmes.
“As we all know, the younger ones are the future of this great institution & profession. This Exco is going to work closely with the student forum in Kaduna to enable them tap from the wealth of experience of our elders, fellows & members.
“For some of us that attended NIMechE Conference & AGM in Kano last year, we saw that no fellowship award was conferred on any member of our great Chapter. This Exco will encourage members who are due for fellowship to apply and we will provide the necessary support we can to see it go through.” Ibrahim added.
The new NIMechE chairman therefore, called on every member in the Kaduna chapter join hands with him to achieve his plans and programmes, saying, “let me use this opportunity to solicit for the unalloyed support of our Fellows, Elders, members & to also call on them that for the next 1calender year, this Exco will be needing their selfless advises, support & corporation for us to be able to achieve successes in the program we have drawn up.”
Other members of the newly inaugurated excos are; Engr. Christy Abraham, as Vice Chairman, Engr. Ojo Emmanuel Adedayo, General Secretary and Olufeso Michael, Assistant General Secretary.
Others are; Lucky Augustine, Financial Secretary, Danfulani Gideon, Treasurer, the new Technical Secretary is Linus Adache, Engr. Ben. Ekpo as Assistant Technical Secretary, Engr. Emmanuel Okon now EX-Officio, Yekini Bello is PRO, while the immediate past chairman, Engr. Dr. Shuaibu Yakubu, is also an Ex-officio.
