Some Cross Riverian in supporters of the Police Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) today, Wednesday 20 in Calabar, marched round the city to drum support for the continued existence of the special police unit and better funding of the Nigerian Police.

The group called on the federal government to instead, think of ways the Nigerian Police could be better funded rather than scraping the unit as that would lead to a more unstable and highly insecure environment.

The Pro-SARS march which took off from the 11/11 round about saw the group bearing banners with different inscriptions like ” Stop Meddling In Police Affairs” “Support Sars To End Robbery In Cross River State” “Cross River State Stands With SARS Police” etc, marched through major routes in the city capital.

The Protesters lashed out on those they called “criminally minded people” for calling on the scrapping of the SARS department of the Nigerian Police and instead, called on adequate funding of the Police.

They cautioned that those calling on scrapping of the special police unit were nothing other than sponsors of crimes and other illegal activities in the state and nation at large. Warning such criminally exposed people to stop meddling in police affairs.

Nigerians have recently been divided over the special anti-robbery unit within the Nigerian Police with some trending with the #ENDSARS, calling on the Federal Government to end the unit,  while others trending with #SUPPORTSARS have been calling on the government to resist the call as such could lead to increase in armed robbery and many other criminal activities.
