In a bid to make it more competitive and successful, there are plans to make state owned Kaduna United a parastatal of its own by the Governor Nasir el-Rufai-led administration.

This was disclosed by the Kaduna State Commissioner of Youth Sports and Culture, Mr. Daniel Danauta in Kaduna, during an interactive session with the members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), held at the commissioner’s office.

He said that already, the plan is in top gear and when completed, would be a model that will see to the growth of several other clubs in the state.

Danauta said that at the end of the process, the club would be headed by a competent board that would see to its day-to-day running, without putting much administrative burden on the government.

Speaking further, he said the el-Rufai administration is also embarking on the first of its kind grassroots sports development drive, which is being tagged ‘Community Sports Development’, whereby they would identify communities, seek available land within the area and construct sporting facilities that would fit into the space.
He assured SWAN of his personal support and the support of the administration which he is serving.
“I have a pleasant surprise for SWAN and at the right time, you will get it,” he said.
Earlier as part of the session, Kaduna SWAN Chairman, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin informed the commissioner that the association had identified him and named him one of their patrons, in view of his commitment to sports development.
“We would have presented this to you at our SWAN WEEK last year but you were unavoidably absent. We know that if you were around, you would have single handedly donated a bus to us.
“It is really embarrassing when we go for national events and other state chapters storm the venues comfortably in their association’s buses but Kaduna SWAN come around, stepping down from Okadas,” he said.
