El-Rufai to LGA Interim Chairmen: I sympathasise with you …says PDP is a virus

Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has said he sympathise and commiserate with the twenty Local Government Interim Committee Chairmen as there is monumental challenge before them in the face of dwindling income.
While addressing the Chairmen after taking oath of allegiance in Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Wednesday in Kaduna, El-Rufai warned them not to fraternize with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in their Councils as the party is a virus that wanted to destroy Nigeria.
El-Rufai said the worst member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) is better than the best PDP member anywhere.
“You have a monumental assignment in an era of dwindling financial resources. As Political Leaders, we must do our best in all circunstances” he stressed.
The Governor said the Local Government Council are key pillars in the development agenda of the APC, as they are closer to the people, have constitutional responsibilities that must be encouraged in delivering services to the people, such as Primary education, waste collection, forestry management, agriculture extension service to among others.
He also stressed that there is the need to devolve more responsibilities to the councils by taking charge of Fire Stations, abbatoires; slaughter slabs and adult education which he said are better handled at the Local Government Level.
He urged them to compare notes, the new ones should be bold enough to reach out to the veterans on grey areas.
He also warned them on multiple taxation, collection of raw cash as against abiding by the new law which forbids anyone from collect any tax but the state government through e-process. He assured that anyone caught flaunting that law would be prosecuted.
The Council Chairs were also told to interface with traditional, religious and other leaders within their areas on security, ensure communal roadblocks are removed for safety of road users.
