El-Rufai promises strengthening LGAs for effective delivery

Kaduna State Governor, MAllam Nasiru Ahmad El-rufai has expressed his administration’s commitment to strengthening local government system for effective service delivery and impact of governance to the people at the grassroot.
The Governor made this commitment stated when he received members of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Kaduna State branch on courtesy call to Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna.
According El-Rufai who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Barnabas Bala Bantex, Local Governments statutory responsibilities such as Primary Health Care system have been taken over by the system.
He revealed that already 22 bills had been sent to State House of Assembly for legislative deliberation and would soon become a law.
The Governor said the State Government had paid over N2 billion as compensation for the land that were given to developers and residents by previous government in the state. He accused some residents of allegedly acquiring certificates of lands that belong to the state government.
“Like Rimi College that needs expansion, government had to pay the occupants because they have certificates and government wants to expand the college” he stressed.
He expressed his administration’s readiness to partner with the NBA to ensure that orderliness is maintained in the state and beyond.
In his remark, the Chairman, NBA Kaduna State branch, Nda-Sule Sherrif said the Association would partner with the State Government to promote good governance in the state.
Sherrif assured that the NBA would make input to strengthen the State Government policies as well as executives bills for smooth legislative deliberations.
“We expect that Government at all levels be guided by the rule of law by ensuring the independence of the state judiciary” he emphasized.
The NBA commended State Government Geographical Information System bill recently forwarded to the State House of Assembly.
“We are of the firm believed that the passage of the bill will lead to a revolution in the procedure of land transaction in the state” he stressed and solicited for the state government’s support to enable the NBA complete its center within Kaduna city.
He also appealed to the governor to allocate the association another parcel of land to enable them develop recreational center and a library for their members.
