Officials of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) deployed for governorship election in Ekiti State have called on the presidency and the Commandant General to immediately move to intervene in the mobilisation stipends payment deferment by their boss.

They were reliably gathered to have been lamenting over non-payment of the approved mobilisation stipend for the exercise and also told to wait till Monday.

Some of the officials deployed from neighbouring Ondo, Osun, Oyo and Kwara states, some of whom were seen in groups of two and three across parts of Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, lamented in an interaction with newsmen that the corps had given them only N10,000 for the exercise.

Investigations revealed that those who would have to wait till Monday were those attached to their state offices across parts of Ekiti state, who had also been informed that they would receive N3,500.

They wondered why receiving their own stipend had always been an issue, despite the fact that all official security agencies receive their cash grants from the office of the Accountant General at the same time.

They also wondered why they would have to wait till Monday when they knew officials from the Corps’ Headquartres in Abuja had come with cash to pay them, and that their colleagues in the Immigration, Police, Army, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) had received their payments through mobile alert system.

Pointing accusing fingers at the State Commandant who they claimed was working in conjuction with those from the headquarters to shortchange them.

According to them, it would not be possible to move anywhere without their mobilisation, saying the trend of shortchanging them during elections must stop, warning that they may take to the streets to protest the development.

According to findings, some of the officials deployed to make payment from the headquarters included Made Kelechi, DCG, Operations, and Obikue Augustine, ACG.

Some of them who spoke under anonymity, said the officers, especially those in Ekiti state haver been suffering in silence, adding that “Why must our stated commandant always seat on our mobilisation fund”

They spoke: “We here call on the presidency and our Commandant General to wade into this situation before it degenerates. How can we wait till Monday to take N3,500 as our mobilization stipend when we know our colleagues across other forces have been paid even as we speak here.

“The situation we find ourselves and have always found ourselves in Ekit, especially during elections, is pitiable. Government has to assist us. As we speak with you, we have not been paid a dime for this assignment and we have been ordered to go to Aramoko, Ikole, Ijero, Ido Osi, and other towns.

“When we asked them why, they said they had not concluded the logistics for the distribution. When we made finding how much we would be getting, they said it is N3,500. Those who came from outside the state have been paid N10,000.

“Either way, we know we have been shortchanged. We will not accept it. This is why we are addressing you. The situation is not funny at all. Now, we will have to go for the assignment on empty stomach and empty purse. This is our situation now.
