Ekiti 2018: Fayose’s Deputy Emerges PDP Flagbearer

Prof. Kolapo Olusola, the Deputy of Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose emerged on Tuesday amidst water tight security as the Governorship candidate of the ‎ Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary ahead July 14 Gubernatorial poll in the state.

Olusola had 1,191 ‎votes while his rival, Prince Dayo Adeyeye scored 771 votes out of the 1,1968 accredited votes and seven void.

‎The third aspirant, Senator Abiodun Olujimi, had earlier withdrawn shortly before the commencement of the exercise for Adeyeye, thereby boosting his chances in the contest many observers say would be stiff.

The voting , which started with the members of the state executive, was done local government by local government.

The expression and body languages of the aspirants and their agents indicated that they are agitated and tension gripped.

A total of 1, 966 delegates voted in the election conducted by secret balloting and supervised by a team sent by the NWC of the party led by the Delta state Governor, Senator Ifeanyin Okowa.

Delegates accredited for each of the 16 LGs are as follows:members of the state executive members 28; former national and state assembles 38; local government chairmen and vice 32; Ado LG 124; Ekiti West 110; Ise Orun 115; Ikere 117; Irepodun/Ifelodun 99; Idols 128 and Ikole 128.

Others are Emure 109; Moba 120; Ekiti S\’West 116. Efon 105; Gbonyin 109; Ilejemeje 108; Ekiti East 131; Oye 126; Ijero 123 while the last local government, Ido-Osi 113, had delegates. The two aspirants and Governor Ayodele Fayose were last to cast their votes at 5. 07pm when votin ended.

The two aspirants expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise and promised to cooperate with whoever emerges as the candidate of the party to ensure the victory of the PDP in the July 14 election.

Earlier,one of the governorship aspirants of the PDP, Senator Abiodun Olujimi stepped down for Prince Dayo Adeyeye.

Olujimi, who represents Ekiti South in the National Assembly, announced her withdrawal shortly before the commencement of voting by the delegates at the Eagle Event Centre, venue of the exercise.

Olujimi, whose action elicits a loud applause, said she decided to collapse her structure for Adeyeye for the progress of the party.

She said,”For the benefits of our party I offer myself as a sacrificial lamb to make our party great. I am collapsing my structure for Prince Dayo Adeyeye.

However,the leader of Governorship Primary of PDP in Ekiti state and governor of Delta state, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, asked Senator Olujimi and her agent to step down from the stage where they sat.

She said that her withdrawal had reduced the aspirants to two‎ and ‘This means that only two aspirants are contesting.”

Okowa said 1966 delegates are voting to elect the party’s flag bearer.

Addressing the delegates before the commencement of voting, he promised that his team would organise free, fair and credible primary for the party.

‎While in his reaction to his emergence as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship candidate,Prof. Kolapo Olusola commended Prince Dayo Adeyeye for his courage and desterity promising to ensure they work together towards winning in the July 14 Gubernatorial election in the state.

Olusola also described the contest as no victor,no vanquish ‎adding that they would both transform the state.

Meanwhile,Governor Ayodele Fayose in his reaction to the conduct of the Party’s primary  “I appreciate God and thank the committee for doing a good job. I thank Prince Adeyeye and Senator Olujimi for their courage.

“In journeys like this there would be a divide. They are leaders of the party irrespective of what has happened before this primary. They should join hands with the party to win the ultimate which is the July 14 election. I commend all the delegate for exercising their civic right.
I urge all the political parties to emulate the PDP in organising a peaceful, credible, free and fair primary.
I will reach out to Prince Adeyeye and Senator Olujimi and personally visit them. I appeal to them in the overall interest of the party to work for our common goal.
