As the Ekiti State Governorship election billed for July 14 this year approaches, posters of Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, have flooded the nooks and crannies of  Ado-Ekiti,the state capital and some other towns in the state.
Fayemi, who was governor between October 2010 and October 2014, when he left office after losing the last governorship election to Governor Ayodele Fayose, was yet to declare intent to run for the gubernatorial poll.
Fayemi’s posters were pasted in Ijigbo, Odo Ado, Okesa, Irona,
Ajilosun, Adebayo, Ilawe Road, Oke Oriomi areas of Ado-Ekiti, the
state capital.
Sources revealed that the posters were also pasted in other towns and
villages by the loyalists of the former governor.
Our correspondent learnt that the posters were produced and pasted by John Kayode Fayemi (JKF) Movement, a pressure group promoting the minister’s undeclared governorship bid.
The poster has the following inscription: “Happy New Year 2018, JKF Again, congratulations, this is your year of supernatural
transformation.”
The action is believed in some quarters to be a subtle announcement of Fayemi’s rumoured intent to take another shot at the state’s highest office expected to be vacant on October 15, 2018.
Speaking on the development on Thursday, State Coordinator of JKF
Movement, Pastor Ade Kolade, said the posters was a gesture from the
group to draft the minister into the 2018 governorship race.
Kolade claimed that the project was financed by the group and never
by the minister said the gesture was to create awareness among the
electorate on the need to give Fayemi another chance.
The JKF Movement boss said the group had held rally and held interface with the people at the grassroots on the need “to give Fayemi an opportunity to salvage the state from its current precarious
situation.”
Kolade said further: “The minister is not aware of our action, we did
it on our own and we will continue to exert pressure on him to come
out and contest for the governorship seat again.
“We have been receiving feedback from all parts of the state where the
people have seen the posters and the responses have been positive.
“We are using this forum to appeal to our honourable minister and
former governor to come out again and vie for the governorship seat
because he has the constitutional right to do so.
“JKF should come and salvage our state from the ongoing misrule, bad
governance and hardship unleashed on the people of our state by the impostors in power.”
A businesswoman in Ado-Ekiti, Mrs. Adesewa Adejobi, said her attention
were drawn to the posters by her customers many of whom he said gave positive response to the development.
Mrs. Adejobi said: “I operate a relaxation centre and the matter
became a subject of discussion among my customers who said they
expected Fayemi to join the race.
“I pray that God will allow him to realize his ambition because life
was easy during his tenure, the economy of our state was good and
people knew what they enjoyed during his time.”
