No fewer than 27 suspected operators of wonder banks are now in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
New Nigerian reliably gathered that the 27 arrested suspects were nabbed when operatives of the EFCC raided offices of the suspected wonder and ponzi schemes in Ibadan.
The suspects according to EFCC sources at the Ibadan zonal office were identified as Olayeni Oladokun Samuel, Managing Director of Unlimited Grace Investment Limited and 10 members of his staff, Chris N. Igbinake of Grooming Centre and four of his staff
Akanbi Oluwakemi of Grace & Mercy Households Improvement Initiativeand four of her staff.
Staffers of Sobic Financial & Investment Consultant which include Awokunle Olukemi, Sikiru Obadara, Olasunkanmi Michael, Adeoti Adegboyega, Oyewusi Esther and Ojekunle Victor Olukayode.
According to the EFCC sources, none of the illegal financial institutions whose operators were arrested by the EFCC operatives registered with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and allegedly give loans to unsuspecting members of the public who register with them after 10% deposit of the total loan sum and charge 15% to 20% interest on all the loans granted to them.
The EFCC sources stressed that the said wonder banks have branches in and outside Oyo State with thousands of customers spread across Oyo, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Kwara and several others
Already, EFCC sources maintained that the suspects have volunteered useful information that would unravel the extent of their illegal activities while several copies of hand flyers advertising their activities and laptops were recovered from the suspect at the point of arrest.
Sources close to the commission added that the arrested 27 suspects are to be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded and a PRIMA facie case is established against them,
