Education Takes Lion Share In Bauchi 2018 Budget

The Bauchi State Government has allocated the sum of N31, 579, 696, 627, representing 18.8% of the 2018 total budget to the education sector  in the proposed budget of N167,957,420 800.
This was disclosed by the permanent secretary in the Bauchi State Planning Commission, Yahuza Adamu Haruna at the state 2018 budget breakdown held Friday at the commission office in Bauchi.
He disclosed that the 2018 state accords priority to six which are Education, Health, Agriculture, Sanitation and Water Supply, Youth and Women Empowerment and Infrastructural Development.
Haruna described education as critical area of importance to the state government, hence the government’s resolve in allocating the sector the sum of N31, 579,696,627 representing 18.80% in the 2018 budget.
He explained that intervention to be carried out in the education sector includes renovation and reconstruction of primary and secondary schools, training and retraining of staff, provisional of equipment and construction of ICT centers across the state, among others.
“Because of the continued intervention in this sector, the numbers of students that passed the national exams rose from 3.37% in 2015 to 17% in 2016 and 27% in 2017”, Haruna said.
Haruna further disclosed that the sum of N25, 574, 001, 643 representing 15.23% of the state’s total 2018 budget was allocated to the Health sector which, according to him, indicates government’s commitment to the sector.
Alhaji Yahuza Haruna said the planned interventions in the health sector in 2018 include continuing the implementation of the Five-Health Point Agenda and establishment of state health care insurance agency.
Others, he enumerated, include the provision of 1% of the entire state Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF) to Basic Health Care Delivery, Fulfilling all National and International health partnership agreements, as well as implementing the National Policy guidelines for primary health care under one roof.
According to him, the 2018 budget christened “Budget of Consolidation” is geared towards investing massively in infrastructural provision and human capital development.
