Dismissed Soldier Nabbed Over Armed Robbery

A dismissed soldier, standing trial for impersonation as a lieutenant of the Nigeria Army  has been arrested over alleged armed robbery.
The suspect, Emmanuel Anthony, who is undergoing the trial at the Ebute- Metta Magistrate court, was arrested at the court room  by operatives of the Anti- Kidnapping Unit of the Zone 2 Command, Onikan, having been identified by an armed robbery victim.
The Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Zone  2 Command, CSP. Dolapo Badmus, while parading the suspect Thursday stated that the suspect in collaboration with other members of his gang robbed a victim and disposed him of his Lexus SUV car and other valuables.
Badmus added that the suspect, with others at large, committed the act sometime in the month of February 2018, along Lagos- Ibadan Express road while in Army uniform.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspect was apprehended on 31th May, 2018 by the police operatives at the court  premises when he was sighted and identified by the victim to be among those who attacked him.
She disclosed that efforts are being made to arrest other fleeing members of the gang, adding that the AIG Zone 2 Adamu Ibrahim has directed that the suspect be charged to court at the completion of investigation.
In a chat with journalists, the suspect confessed to the crime, but denied being armed at the time of the incident, saying that they only applied excessive force on the victim.
He informed that he committed the crime in collaboration with a fellow dismissed soldier, identified simply as Agu.
Anthony disclosed that the car was sold by Agu for N1.6 million to a buyer he could not identified.
Claiming to have served at  121 Taskforce Battalion, 26 Taskforce Brigade, Maiduguri before his dismissal, Anthony a Lance Corporal, said he was caught wearing the rank of  Lieutenant at Volks in Ojo Army Cantonment area of Lagos and was summarily charged to court, before his arrest for the robbery offence.
The suspect,  who also claimed to have served in the Army for close to 10 years before his dismissal in March 2018, disclosed that he was dismissed for deserting in 2016.
