Dingyadi Lauds Former Governor Bafarawa

A Broadcaster cum politician, Yusuf Dingyadi has extolled the sterling qualities of his political mentor and former governor of Sokoto state, Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, saying he is a leader worthy of emulation.
Dingyadi, a special assistant to the former on media, who hitherto worked with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), was speaking at a honourary award forum in Bauchi Sunday, organized by the North East Youth Movement for Democracy in Nigeria.
Alhaji Yusuf Dingyadi, recalled that the former Sokoto governor, Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa in 2007 after the expiration of his two terms tenure of 8 years in office, then left in the coffers of Sokoto state government a whooping sum of N13.8 billion.
Dingyadi, also former campaign assistant director of Obasanjo/Atiku that worked in the North East, said it was for this reason that the former Sokoto state governor, Bafarawa mandated him to be in Bauchi to receive the honourary award on his behalf.
The broadcaster-turned politician told the forum held at the Khairan Guest Inn, Bauchi that former president Obasanjo was during Bafarawa’a tenure 14th times invited to Sokoto to commission development projects that include the construction of 1, 200 kilometers of roads in the state.
The representative also recalled that Bafarawa on his assumption of office as governor in Sokoto state in 1999 inherited 30 doctors for the state, but was able to during the period under review, raised the number to 2, 000 doctors, courtesy of his government’s manpower training drive, particularly of medical personnel in Bulgaria.
He also disclosed that Garkuwan Sokoto, Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa was among nine distinguished persons globally that were in the last three months granted entry into the Ka’abah in Mecca, the epitome of the religion of Islam.
Speaking earlier in a welcome address, the North East Chairman of the Youth Movement for Democracy in Nigeria, Suleiman Shehu –Danmalikin Maza Waje, recalled that it was Bafarawa’s conceptualization that in 2011 culminated to the formation of All Progressives Congress (APC), anchored by Bafarawa, Atiku and Buhari, which subsequently launched Buhari into its presidential race.
Dan-malikin Maza Waje said however that it was the deception saga by the then anchors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that led Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa to pitch tent with the then ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Dingyadi, at the occasion, on behalf of his political mentor, received the Distinguished Honourary Award of ‘Grassroots Politician in Nigeria’ bestowed on Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, witnessed by notable politicians across the length and breadth of North East geo-political zone of the country.
