Development: Gov Yari Seeks Collaboration Of State Legislators

Zamfara State Governor, Alhaji Abdul’Aziz Yari Abubakar has called on state legislatures to synergize and collaborate with the executive arms for government to  meet public expectations and deliver promises to the people.

Yari made the call while declaring opening the 2018 Nigeria Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria holding in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.

Yari represented by his Deputy, Malam Ibrahim Wakkala Muhammad said the role of the legislature in a liberal democratic setting cannot be overemphasized as they makes laws for the common good of all.

“It is obvious that there must be synergy of efforts and collaboration between the executive arm and states Houses of Assemblies if government goals and policies are to be realized. Gladly, reports from across the states of the federation indicate a harmonious working relationship between the arms, ” he said

The governor called on legislatures as an independent arm of government which is meant to checkmate the executive arm to always their duties with outmost vigour and tenacity.

“We have an important task of working unitedly to strengthen our democratic institutions so that there will be greater respect for the rule of law, human rights and freedom as enshrined in our constitution,” he said.

The Chairman, Conference of Speakers and Kebbi State House of Assembly Speaker, Ismaila Abdulmumini Kamba  commended the Zamfara State government for its commitment in the fight against armed banditry and cattle rustling.

“With the recent success recorded in killing of the kingpin of armed banditry and cattle rustling in Zamfara State, I believe peace and security will return to the state and indeed the country,” he said.

Earlier, the Speaker, Zamfara State House of Assembly, Sanusi Garba Rikiji said the state is peaceful state despite the incidents of cattle rustling and armed banditry.

“I urge you my colleagues to feel at home here in Zamfara because we are peace and God fearing people that is why you see all tribes and nations leaving together regardless of religious and tribal differences,” he said.
