The Chief of Staff to the Bauchi State Governor, Architect Audu Sule Katagum has dragged the governorship candidate of Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) in the 2011 elections, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar to court for an alleged defamation of character.
Katagum is claiming the sum of N2bn as damages in the suit, as he also demanded an apology and retraction of the defamatory materials on electronics media to be aired 3 times daily for seven days
He told the court that Maitama Tuggar took to his face book page and cast aspersions on his person and hard earned character as follows.
“Chief of Staff Audu Katagum where is Musa Azare you asked him to come and see you at Government lodge Abuja on Thursday and he refuse because he feared for his safety, and two days later he disappeared into thin air. Be aware we shall hold u responsible if anything happens to him”
However the matter came up for hearing before the Bauchi State High Court 5 which granted a motion for defence filed by one Alhaji Abdu Sule Katagum against Alhaji Yusuf Tuggar.
The court, presided over by Justice Aliyu Usman, granted the motion based on the formal request by the defence counsel.
Counsel to the defence, Barrister Mustapha Tafarki argued that his client has never posted any bad words on the social media against the plaintiff as earlier alleged.
According to the counsel, the name Musa Azare in the alleged facebook post is a critic of Bauchi state government.
Meanwhile the presiding Judge, Justice Aliyu Usman, has adjourned the matter to 12th December 2016 for pre-hearing.
