When Inde Dikko Abdullahi was appointed the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service by the Yar’adua Administration, many people doubted his capabilities and could not therefore hide their feelings, but made it public. A lot of critics came up with different submissions on Dikko, some even claimed that his qualifications was questionable, and therefore went to the extent of publications and investigations, but the gentleman stood his grounds that he is qualified and capable.
Little did we know that the best Comptroller General ever to occupy the hot seat is Inde Dikko Abdullahi. He proved his critics wrong and I believe he is able to convince the entire nation that he is capable and the best choice, at least for now thereby putting shame in the faces of his critics. He moves along with the global changes and ensure that all customs officers and men receive the best of trainings and are therefore up to date in all their dealings wherever they find themselves
Dikko remits above his monthly and yearly targets in the Federal Government Coffers, without tears; the best ever done by his predecessors. In order to encourage and deal with corruption habits, he increased customs salaries by about 100%, better their remunerations, built more staff quarters and renovated the old ones. He put in the best habitable stage all Deputy Comptrollers General and Assistant Controller General’s official residences across the country and even the Chief Superintendents were not left out. This is extended down to the junior carder. Best of him is yet to come.
Dikko has put in place, customs academy in the nation’s capital city Abuja, and it is of international standard and ensured that the institution gained international recognition. At the moment, customs officers from the entire African continent come into the academy and receive various professional trainings. Meanwhile, construction has reached an advanced stage for a new Customs Permanent Headquarters also in the heart of Abuja. Corruption in the customs is gradually becoming history and international businessmen and women Nigerians enjoy the customs more than ever before at the Nigerian boarders.
I cannot conclude my write up without personally congratulating the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service for a job well done. May the Almighty Allah continue to guide and protect him throughout the period he will serve this great nation in this capacity. May I use this medium to recommend for more tenure for the Comptroller General to Mr. President for his approval. These are the exact type of hard working Nigerians needed to complement Mr. President’s transformation programme of Nigeria. The impact of the positive changes in the Nigeria Customs Service is vividly clear for each and everyone to see. Keep the customs flag flying in the quest for Nigeria’s transformation programme of Mr. President. May the Almighty Allah continue to guide you in the right path, ameen.

Saleh Ahmad Muhammed Comptroller of Customs (Rtd), Bauchi
