A band of daring, unknown persons armed with guns on Thursday attacked the Kutigi Divisional Police Station in the home town of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris Kpotun where they fell a Police Sergeant and injured scores of Police on duty.
The gunmen were said to have swooped on the Divisional Police Station, catching the Policemen unawares as they shot sporadically and forcefully attempted  to gain entrance into the armoury of the station.
The armed men who were most likely on weapons hunt, nearly over powered the station officers on guard but for the bravity of a Policeman manning the armoury.
The Police officer on duty at the deck at the time of the invasion, Sergeant Jibrin Abubakar was however felled by the bullets from the invaders.
The state Police image maker, ASP Abubakar Mohammed confirmed the incident but said the Police have lunched a man hunt to fish out the hoodlums.
He said the Police on guard at the Divisional Police Station successfully repelled the attack and forced the attackers to abandon their mission following intensive counter fire exchange from the Policemen at the station.
The Police Public Relations Officer disclosed that a seventeen man investigation committee headed  by an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abdullahi Ya’u is heading the investigation panel to probe the incident just as he appealed to citizens in the area to remain calm and watchful.
The PPRO also disclosed that a N500,000 reward has been staked out by the state’s Police Command for any information that could lead to the arrest of the attackers.
He said the Police had spread it’s dragnets to apprehend the culprits even as he called on members of the public to assist the Police in arresting the criminals.
Our correspondent reports that the attack on the Kutigi Divisional Police Station is the third of such incidences in the state this year.
A band of armed robbers had attacked the Divisional Police Station at Lapai earlier this year and killed two Police on duty at the station and also carted away weapons.
The same band of criminals went ahead to rob two banks in the town where they shot dead about half a dozen persons after which they ran away with their booties.
A little over a month ago, another band of armed men had attacked the Divisional Police Station at Gbako, in Lemu and shot sporadically as they fought to gain access into the station’s strong room for weapons.
The Police later said the attackers were repelled but denied that hunters and members of the area’s vigilante group had assisted in fighting and routing the criminal invaders out of the station.
The Police has not made any arrest of criminals who perpetrated the attacks despite insistence that it is on top of the situation.
