Cult clashes claim 5 lives in Ibadan in two weeks – Lawmaker

The lawmaker representing Ibadan North II Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Olusegun Olaleye on Tuesday alerted that no fewer five people were feared killed in the past two weeks in Agbowo, Barika and Ijokodo areas of Ibadan during cult clashes.
Hon Olaleye who raised the alarm while speaking at the floor of the House during  a matter of urgent public importance, expressed dismay in the rise of incidents of cultism in the affected areas.
The lawmaker stressed that the cult clashes had resulted in the alleged death of five persons in the past two weeks while residents in the said areas and its neighbourhoods around the University of Ibadan and The Polytechnic, Ibadan communities are already living in fear of cultists’ attacks.
Following the alarm, the House of Assembly members have charged the management of the University of Ibadan and The Polytechnic, Ibadan, landlords’ associations in the affected areas to engage in joint programme of action towards stopping cultism and cultists clashes in the areas.

The lawmakers  also called on the Oyo State Ministry of Information and Orientation to embark on sensitization of residents in the area especially the youths on the need to stay away from cultism.
