Cross River Govt Constitutes LOC For Falcons, Flying Eagles Qualifiers

Local Organising  Committee (LOC) for the hosting of the 2018 Women’s AFCON qualifiers between the Super Falcons of Nigeria and their Gambian Foes has been constituted.

Also constituted is  that of the Flying Eagles against Guinea Bissau slated for the U.J.Esuene stadium in Calabar on Saturday May 19th and June 12, 2018 respectively.

The Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Comrade Okang Asu, while inaugurating the 20 – member LOC in Calabar  said that they are expected to put modalities in place to ensure that the the matches are hosted without hitch.

Comrade  Asu listed the LOC headed by the  Special   Assistant to the Governor on Sports, Mr Effiom Effiwatt to include the Permanent Secretary Mrs Ninka Takon, the Secretary of the state Football Association, Mr  Mike Ushie as the
Secretary   with the Representative  of the  state Chapter of the
Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) as member.

Also to serve is a Commissioner in the state Sports Commission ,Mr Ekanem
EKpenyong,  the Director of Facilities, Mr Omara Coco – Bassey, Protocol Unit in the  Governor’s Office represented by Mr Otu Abang and a representative of the state Security Adviser among others.

The Commissioner  enjoined the LOC to  sustain the positive legacies of their predecessors by ensuring that the state and indeed that Calabar re-enacts its previous  history of successful hosting of national events and Calabar in particular as the cradle of the game in Nigeria.

His Excellency Professor Senator Ben Ayade,the governor
had directed upon the choice of Calabar as the host of these two
matches directed me to put in place a machinery that will justify the
essence of the choice by adopting strategic stakeholders such as these
personalities seated here to execute the onerous task .

”It is therefore my fervent hope     that you will not renege  in
this call to service to deliver  hat expectation most especially that
we have done it before and by the grace of God will do it again ”.

” You will recall that Calabar is traditionally the home of  Nigeria
as well as well as the national teams and the   country has never lost
an opportunity to qualify from here when such opportunities are
availed and this will not be an exception ”

The Special Assistant to the governor on Youth and Sports,Mr Effiom Effiwatt pledged that the LOC under his watch will deliver on the mandate to justify the the confidence reposed on its membership and enjoined all hands to be on

He recalled that some of those appointed are quite experienced
and will deliver.
