Crisis Mars APC Congress In Cross River State

Delegates of APC Congress in Cross River stranded as crisis prevents it from holding.


The All Progressives’ Congress (APC), state congresses scheduled to hold Saturday May 5 2018 across the 18 local government councils was stalemated with crisis as the Dr. Stanley Ekezie led committee were nowhere to be found.

As early as 8 am, prominent members of the party had conveyed at the party secretariat to listen to the committee but were disappointed without sighting them.

It would be recalled that there was a stakeholders meeting Friday night where it was decided that the congresses be postponed till Sunday 6, 2018.

Those present were former civilian gov, Chief Clement Ebri, Senator John Owan Enoh, Barr. Utum Eteng, Chief Obono Obla and Vena Ikem.

Speaking to newsmen ,Barr. Utum Eteng said “if things were not allowed yo follow proper processes, it is a doom for APC in Cross River state”.

According to him ” stakeholders had a meeting and agreed to shift the congresses till Sunday but we gathered that someone wants to hijack everything”.

He said “this is not acceptable us. We must protect our democracy. We need transparency and nothing more than that”.

Speaking the National Vice chairman, South South, Chief Hilard Ettah, described the plan to hijack the electoral material as “an insult to the sensibility of Cross Riverians”.

He called for transparency as that is APC mantra slogan stand for.

Ettah regretted that some people were trying to fool the entire APC members across the entire state.

Meanwhile, the police had shot teargas to disperse people at the parry secretariat before they relocated to Danic Hotels.

Earlier, the stakeholders had agreed to go back to the party secretariat to continue their meeting as to whether the congresses would hold or not in a later date yet to be fixed.

Efforts to get to the members of the committee proved abortive they could not be reached as at the time of filing this report.

There was presence or heavily armed security personnel at both the party secretariat and Danic hotels.
