An Oyo state High Court sitting in Ibadan has sentenced a 200 level student of Lead City University, Ibadan, Moshood Owolabi to death by hanging for stabbing a fellow student to death two years ago.
Justice Adegboye Gbolagunte while delivering his judgment on Wednesday said the prosecuting counsel Barrister A. Olawale, from the Oyo State Ministry of Justice had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.
The judge pointed out that the evidence before him showed that the accused committed the offence as charged, adding, that the accused should be sentenced to death by hanging to serve as deterrent to others.
It will be recalled that Barrister Olawale told court that the 200 level student stabbed Kolawole of the Physical and Health Education Department at the University with a broken bottle in the neck, following a misunderstanding between them on Jan. 12, 2014 at toll-gate area of Ibadan.
Barrister Olawale said the injury sustained as a result of the stabbing resulted to the death of Kolawole and that the offence is punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap. 38 Vol. II Law of Oyo State 2000.
