Corp Member Murder: Akwa Ibom CP Orders Manhunt Of Culprits

The Akwa Ibom State Police  Command has began a dust to dawn search of the killers of a youth corp member who was assassinated on Sunday by unknown gunmen in Eket Local Government Area of the state.

This followed the action by the Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Adeyemi Samuel for immediate deployment of special force from the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to the area.

The special force is mandated to unravel the circumstances that led to the murder of the corp member and apprehend the culprits.

Victim, a 27 years old NYSC member attached to a public school at Nung Obong in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of the state was attacked in front of a lock-up shop at Akanimo Street, Eket.

Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), DSP Bala Elkana who confirmed the incident said, “The incident was reported to the Police on 7th January, 2018 at about 2300hrs. The deceased was hanging out with other youth corp members whom he visited when he was attacked.”

An eye witness account according to DSP Elkana said, the murder was carried out by unknown assailants on motorcycle, who opened fire at the deceased.

Meanwhile, CP Samuel has visited the scene to have an on-the-spot assessment of the incident; and assured the people, especially the NYSC family that the perpetrators of the dastardly act will be apprehended to face the full wrath of the law.

The killing of a youth corp member which is the first in the history of the state has been widely condemned across the state while security has been beefed up.
