It was confusion galore at Bode Igbo in Ido local government area of Oyo State on Monday when men of the Oyo/Osun Command of the Nigeria Customs Service and suspected smugglers engaged in a shoot out at the community.

New Nigerian gathered from an eye witness that the shoot out which lasted to over 40minutes forced the agitated pupils and staff of Bode-Igbo Primary School  and  Bode-Igbo Community Secondary School to run helther skelter for safety

According to the witness, trouble started when a patrol team of the Nigeria Customs Service reported pursued  suspected smugglers said to be in a vehicle laden with contrabands notably imported foreign rice with the patrol team as well as the suspected smugglers.

The eye witness accounts steessed on hearing the sporadic gunshots renting the air in a residential location along a route leading to the Customary Court complex in the vicinity, to which the Customs operatives allegedly trailed the suspected smugglers, the on-going court session was abruptly halted forcing the litigants and the jurists to desert the court for safety.

According to the eye witness, the traditional ruler of Bode Igbo,Chief Muraina Agbmeji  on sighting his subjects running helter skelter, immediately rushed out to
prevail on the situation urging men of the Nigeria Customs to always be more proactive in their operations rather than engaging in shootout at residential locations wondering what the situation would have been should any innocent person had been hit through accidental discharge in the cause of the shootout.

Chief Agbomeji however warned the smugglers against sabotaging the nation’s economy to desist from doing so
